The Kalimba is a modern version of the African mbira, and is also known as the Thumb Piano. The Kalimba can be used as a solo instrument or as an accompaniment for singers, musicians and dancers. It consists of a wooden plank (often fitted with a resonator) with staggered metal teeth, played by holding the instrument in the hands and pinching the teeth with the thumbs.
